We had previously blogged that residents were complaining about a "significant odor issue at the landfill." Fredericksburg.com is now reporting that Virginia DEQ officials have regularly visited areas less than a mile from the landfill and smelled "very strong/overwhelming odors," and sent a warning letter to that effect in April, 2010. The response to the letters detailed the work being done to trap methane gasses. Unfortunately, that will not solve the landfill odor problem, as methane is odorless.
