EPA declared Libby, Montana a Public Health Emergency

Over 200 people have died from asbestos related diseases to date and countless others are sick, due to contamination from a now-closed vermiculite mine, according to KPAX. For years the EPA had given the area Superfund status, and had been cleaning it up, but more needed to be done, so for the first time, they have made a determination under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), that conditions at a site constitute a public health emergency. Hopefully the declaration will bring long term health care to residents.

While I do not currently represent anyone involved with this site, I do represent hundreds of similarly situated people around the country in various landfill and other environmental litigation cases.
