DEP reaches agreement with Seneca Landfill in Butler County, Pennsylvania

We had previously blogged that the Seneca Landfill, in Jackson and Lancaster townships, was fined $107,147 for numerous violations including odor, litter, dust control and record keeping violations. The landfill appealed the violations. Additional inspections were conducted by the DEP that showed that the landfill had not adequately dealt with leachate. The Mercury reports that the landfill and DEP has reached a settlement that includes a$10,000 penalty for Clean Streams Law violations, and a $160,000 penalty for violations of the Solid Waste Management Act. The landfill is also to upgrade its existing leachate treatment facilities.
