Mirena IUD Injury Lawyers
Representing Patients in Missouri & the U.S. from Faulty Birth Control
Mirena IUDs are a popular form of birth control, which are part of a global trend towards reversible birth control. In fact, IUDs now make up more than 10 percent of contraceptives prescribed in the U.S., which is nearly 10 times what it was a decade prior. They are effective and eliminate the need for a daily pill—but they also have documented side effects.
The UCLA Medical Center has reported that IUD migration or organ perforation happens “frequently,” leading to costly reparative surgery. At The Simon Law Firm, P.C., our attorneys fight for compensation on behalf of clients who suffered from using a Mirena IUD. We can help you receive the resources to recover, including lost wages and present and future medical costs.

The Potential Side Effects of Mirena IUDs
IUDs, or intrauterine devices, are inserted into the uterus where they release hormones slowly over the course of 3-10 years. Mirena IUD hormones create a mucus membrane that blocks sperm access to the cervix, preventing pregnancy with 99.3 percent effectiveness. However, the IUD does not always stay in place.
IUD migration can lead it to perforating the uterine wall, moving into the abdominal cavity or pelvis. This causes intense pain, and may require emergency surgery to remove. Migration can also mean the IUD will become absorbed into the uterine membrane, which may require multiple surgeries to correct.
Other possible effects of Mirena IUDs include:
- Septic pregnancy
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- Miscarriages or premature delivery
