We previously blogged about the odors coming from Baker Commodities, a rendering plant that collects and recycles road kill. Residents were wanting DEC involvement in taking action against the rendering plant after they had been complaining for 9 years. The Democrat & Chronicle recently featured a resident, Steve Healey, who has described the odors as driving by a dead raccoon on the side of the road, but not being able to get rid of that smell at home.

The article details the difficulty that state and local officials have in getting the offending companies to control their odors. The best thing for residents to do is to complain to local and state officials every time they are affected the offending odor on their property, and to keep complaining.
