The Menomonee Falls Patch is reporting that residents near a Menomonee Falls-area landfill have been complaining of more significant odors lately. The odor has been a problem in the past but residents claim it has gotten worse recently, causing them to keep their windows closed. They also note that the odor is now being observed in areas that it wasn't before, including Appleton and Pilgrim. A spokesman for Waste Management, which runs the landfill stated that if proper landfill cover procedures are being used, then the odor should not be a problem. The gas from the landfill is currently used to create electricity to power 13,000 homes in the area and two years ago the town negotiated a deal with Waste Management that expanded the landfill by 200 acres.
