In a recent article the Denton Record Chronicle reported that a private environmental company detected levels of methyl pyridine and dimethyl pyridine, which are neurotoxins, and other toxins, at higher than safe limits in residential areas surrounding natural gas production facilities. Residents had complained about foul smelling air for years. Further, area farmers have been having problems with their crops and animals dying.
Dr. Wilma Subra, an environmental chemist based in Louisiana who has been investigating the contamination, has said that this can be prevented, but would cost the companies money.
In another article in The Denton Record Chronicle, the town is inviting feedback from residents. One resident, Dawn Melton, was hospitalized for migraines, which have gotten worse over the past few years, which she believes is from the fumes.
