Mass Live is reporting that the source of recent odor complaints in Springfield, Massachusetts is not the Springfield Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant that usually generates complaints. Instead, the smell is reportedly coming from a privately-owned landfill nearby that is owned by Essential Power. The contract administrator at the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission stated that the complaints have been gathering over the course of the past three weeks.
Although there have not been a massive amount of complaints about the odor, the reporter who spoke to residents noted that there were reports that the stench has been particularly troublesome for the elderly. One resident said that the smell is so strong it sometimes gags him, and another resident who works in City Hall reported that she can smell it there.
