The Fresno Bee is reporting that a sewage treatment plant in Richmond, California had to halt operations because residents were complaining of nausea, headaches and respiratory problems associated with a rotten egg smell. The rotten egg smell is typically hydrogen sulfide, and at low concentrations, it will cause such symptoms. The odor was linked to cracked covers on digesting machines. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is investigating. The sewage treatment plant is operated by Veolia Water.
