The Herald News is reporting that after determining the Fall River city landfill was producing excessive emissions of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide, Browning Ferris Industries - Fall River was fined $65,546 in penalties.

As the director of MassDEP touched on in the article, low levels of hydrogen sulfide can smell like rotten eggs, causing an odor nuisance, preventing the enjoyment of one's own property. It also can cause breathing and respiratory problems.

While we do not represent anyone in Fall River, we currently represent many families in Newburyport, Massachusetts in a lawsuit against the owners of the Crow Lane Landfill, for their failure to mitigate excessive odors.
