KOMU in Columbia, Missouri reports that a Fulton Sanitary Landfill in Callaway County, Missouri is producing high levels of explosive gas and nearby residents are concerned.
Gas levels are at an all-time high in the area but the DNR reports, this isn’t the first time there’s been a problem. Since 2000, the DNR has been working with the Fulton Sanitary Landfill to alleviate the high gas levels, with little success. In 2003 and 2004, the city installed vented wells to control the gas migration. The city then installed a gas extraction system in 2008. Despite these efforts, the landfill continues to receive violations about high levels of methane gas.
