KY3 is reporting that residents are surprised that the high levels of methane coming from the Renfro Sanitary Landfill that they had thought were abated in the 1990s have come back, according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The landfill was privately owned until 2008 when the City of Branson West, Missouri took over the landfill and responsibility for controlling the methane.
High levels of methane can cause headaches and other symptoms that come from low oxygen in the blood. Methane is also highly flammable and odorless.
