Farmers Seek Class Certification Alleging Harm from Monsanto Bioengineered Wheat

A group of farmers seek class certification for all persons and entities who have grown, owed, harvested and/or planted soft white wheat from May 29, 2013 to the present. The farmers allege Monsanto failed to prevent genetically engineered wheat from contaminating the entire wheat farming and production chain. Monsanto abandoned development of bioengineered wheat in 2005 after foreign countries continued to block exports of the genetically modified crop. The wheat farmers now claim economic damages due to their need to implement costly measures to maintain the integrity to non-contaminated wheat crops, and a loss of both import and export markets of contaminated crops. Suits have been filed on behalf of farmers in Kansas, Idaho, and Washington.
