The Herald-Star is reporting that the Jefferson County Ohio Common Pleas Court has issued a temporary restraining order against the C&D Disposal Technologies landfill in Steubenville, Ohio, ordering it to stop accepting solid waste, and remove or curtail leachate and odor at the site. The Order came after local health officials found the recycling center accepting solid waste and not segregating from the recyclables. The solid waste was just dumped on the ground without anything in place to prevent odors, and presented a significant fire hazard. Further, health department officials smelled the rotten egg odor that is hydrogen sulfide at least a quarter mile away from the site. We had previously blogged about another problem landfill in Jefferson County, Ohio, the Apex Landfill near Amsterdam.
