Another Lee County Landfill catches on fire, causing evacuation

Previously, we blogged about the Lee Landfill in Bishopville, South Carolina. This time, The Item is reporting that another privately owned landfill located 12 miles away in Egypt, South Carolina caught on fire and spread out of control, causing the evacuation of residents within a 3 mile radius. The evacuation initially was voluntary, but WIS10 is reporting that 10-15 people were forced to evacuate. By Tuesday, December 1, 2009, as many as 50 people were at an emergency shelter. DHEC is investigating.

We will be monitoring this situation closely. While I do not represent anyone associated with this case, I do represent hundreds of similarly situated people around the country in environmental litigation cases.
