The Chalmette Refining, LLC facility (also known as the Exxon Mobil Refinery) is located in Chalmette, Louisiana. In 2006 and thereafter, residents around the refining facility complained about the odor of rotten eggs in the air. Monitoring by the Louisiana Bucket Brigade found levels of hydrogen sulfide high enough to get the involvement of the US Department of Health and Human Services. The refining facility was ordered to install devices to contain the odors, and as of November, 2008, there are still odor concerns, which can be problematic to asthmatics, and can cause respiratory problems in otherwise healthy people.
We will keep an eye on this story for developments. While I do not currently represent anyone at this site, I do represent hundreds of similarly situated people around the country in various landfill and environmental litigation..
