$250,000 penalty for power company at Fall River Landfill in Fall River

The Herald Times is reporting that Gas Recovery Systems, LLC, a private power company, was fined nearly $250,000 for excess emissions of sulfur dioxide in generating power from methane at the Fall River Landfill. Gas Recovery Systems, LLC is a division of Fortistar Methane Group. Mass DEP determined that not only did the concentration of hydrogen sulfide exceed approved limits, the company took no action to prevent the excess gas.

We previously blogged that the Fall River city landfill was also fined $65,546 for the excessive emissions of hydrogen sulfide.

While we do not represent anyone in Fall River, we currently represent many families in Newburyport, Massachusetts in a lawsuit against the owners of the Crow Lane Landfill, for their failure to mitigate excessive odors.
